History
& Traditions

A former kingdom ruled by the Namgyal dynasty, Sikkim became the 22nd state of India in 1975. Its history is a rich tapestry of Buddhist wisdom, local Lepcha folklore, and Himalayan sovereignty.

Climate & Geography

Subtropical in the south to alpine in the north. Sikkim's weather transitions from the misty valleys of Gangtok to the dramatic, sky-high vistas of the Pelling peaks. Best visited in spring (March-June) and autumn (Oct-Dec).
